Phoenix Parks & Gardens
Over 7,000 acres of views and recreational area is available to visitors of Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Hiking, horseback riding, and picnic areas are all accessible, and many natural points of interest are located there.
A 222 acre oasis in the desert, Encanto Park features a swimming pool, a lagoon, hiking trails, boat house and a special Kiddieland/Enchanted Island amusement park and two golf courses. Visitors can rent either a paddle boat or canoe for a float on the lagoon. Baseball, basketball and tennis facilites are also available.
The Desert Botanical Garden, consisting of almost 20,000 plants,has one of the world's most prominent collections of desert plants.
Covering 16,500 acres South Mountain Park is the largest municipal park in the world. The park is home to a diverse variety of fauna and wildlife including coyotes, rabbits, lizards and birds. Hiking trails, spectacular lookouts and picnic areas are featured in this desert park.
This barrier free park for physically challenged individuals if the first of its kind in the nation. It features a therapeutic heated pool, wheelchair accessible playground equipment, handball, volleyball and shuffleboard facilities. The park also offers a diversity of recreational, social and special events designed for those with disabilities.
Located in southern Arizona and California, and continuing into neighbouring Mexico, the Sonoran Desert is one of the continent's largest and hottest deserts and is known for its unique plant life such as the Saguaro Cactus.
A short 20 mile drive outside of Phoenix lies Lost Dutchmen State Park and the Superstition Mountains.Hiking, camping and picnicing are but a few of the recreational opportunities available.
